Exploration Activities

There have been eight phases of exploration on EPC987. The first two phases were conducted by the Department of Minerals and Energy during the mid-1970s that included seven drill holes inside and the adjacent to the EPC. The subsequent six drilling programs were undertaken by MacMines between 2008 and 2014, with approximately 84 chip holes and 85 cored holes completed within the South Block, and 22 holes in the North Block.

The latest structural and raw coal quality models were finalised on the June 2015. A total of 190 holes were used to construct the structural model, a total of 69 holes were used as JORC Points of Observation for resource estimation purposes for the South and North Block.

Results of June 2015 JORC resource estimate have shown a total resource of 7.7 billion tonnes (“Bt”) is estimated for the South Block, and 2.1 billion tones (Bt) is estimated for the North Block. Total of approximately 10 Bt resource of thermal coal resources.

A 60 Mtpa Rom coal mine has been planned for the South Block ( Project China Stone ). Coal will be mined by open cut and underground method.
